Sports Development Officer appointed at Tameside College Fri, 09 October 2015 Tameside College has appointed a new Sports Development Officer as part of the Sports England Project. Chris Banks, former Manchester Giants basketball player, will bring his sporting talents to the College and help students enjoy a wider range of sports. Chris has been appointed to help increase the participation in sport and fitness of 14-25 year olds with a focus on females; students from black and minority ethnic groups and students with disabilities. As Chris completes his first week at the College and already has plans to have students involved in activities from next week. Chris said: “I have great ideas for developing sports at Tameside College. I am looking forward to working with the students and am keen to learn what they want to from sporting activities at the College. This role is a huge opportunity for me to help students get the joy I have from sports and fitness.” Following a career as a professional basketball player Chris trained to become a sports development officer. His passion for sport has given him great opportunities which has included travelling overseas to develop sport in Zambia. Chris said: “It doesn’t matter where you’re from sport brings everyone together and allows people to excel in things they didn’t think they could achieve.”
