‘Game changing’ outcome for Tameside esports students

Students at Tameside College show off their talents in national esports competition.

The ‘Tameside Titans’ team at the college recently took part in the British Esports Association ‘spring showdown’, competing against the best teams from across the country.

The British Esports Association is the largest esports organisation in the UK and regularly hosts competitions for students, alongside their studies.

The team reached the semi-finals of the competition, after taking part in several heats, only losing to the eventual competition winners, City College Plymouth.

Preston Beadsworth, esports student and former Greater Academy Ashton pupil, said: “After joining the Overwatch 2 team I have gained many skills and become much more confident. It has not been easy competing against some very tough teams but it was fantastic when all the hard work payed off. Ioannis our teacher has been amazing in helping us overcome every obstacle we came across.”

Ioannis Ntizoglou, esports teacher at Tameside College, said: “I am very pleased with the team and what they have achieved this year. Their dedication not only to the competition but to their studies proves that they will do brilliantly in their careers and considering this is only the first time some of the students have competed, they have done us proud.”

Tameside College offers a variety of computing courses, including esports for school leavers with specialist gaming PCs and classrooms. To find out more visit the college website or call 0161 908 6600.
